They are, I think, the Rolls-Royce of Pockies, with a thick, generous, marbled coating over the pretzel sticks. I can't decide which one I like better - the Chocolate Cream or Green Tea (both are $4 a box).
The green tea-flavoured one has a hint of honey in it and is sweet but not cloyingly so. Not bad with a cup of green tea, come to think of it.
The chocolate one is not sweet either, and that's just as it should be. It's not premium chocolate but this is one of the best versions of Pocky I've had this year.
On the savoury, Pretz front, there are two new flavours in supermarkets now.
Ika Shichimi Pretz ($2.50) has a squid flavour that is not too strong, thankfully, and a spicy kick from Shichimi Togarashi.
This is an orange-red blend of seven spices: ground-up red chillies, yuzu peel, yellow and black sesame seeds, Sansho pepper, seaweed, and ginger.
Seaweed and Wasabi Pretz ($2.50) is more conventional and a little disappointing - none of the flavours really stands out. The seaweed flavour is mild and lacks punch, and I wish there were more wasabi in it. Not so much that it will clear blocked sinuses, but just a little bit more for kick.
