>Is it my imagination or has the selection of supermarket chocolate suddenly become much better?
There's still a lot I wouldn't eat, but you can now get decent dark chocolate, many with more than 60 per cent cocoa solids. I'm not sure what the count is for these chocolates but I just couldn't resist getting them. And it's a good thing the prettily named Melty Kiss from Meiji is packed individually or it would be all too easy to polish off the entire box in one sitting. There are three flavours: milk, green tea and raspberry. Basically, they're square truffle chocolates, with the same dark, velvety interiors as their more expensive cousins. All three are excellent, but if I had to choose one, I'd get the raspberry. The red berry flavour is a perfect match with chocolate.
Melty Kiss Chocolates, $3.30 a box, from Isetan Supermaket, 350 Orchard Road, Shaw House, tel: 6733-1111. Opening hours: 10am to 9.30pm daily.
