These pretty cakes from The Patissier will definitely make a statement on your Christmas table and a big impression on your palate.

Xmas Xmas Little Stars ($75, top picture, left) is a dreamy concoction made up of little balls of sponge sandwiches filled with passionfruit mousse, piled into a pyramid shape then scattered with plump raspberries and chocolate stars.

The sponge balls are light and tangy and will disappear faster than you can say 'Merry Christmas'. Then slice up the gingerbread base to have with strong tea.

On the opposite end of the scale is Brownie Christmas Tree ($75, top picture, right), made up of rich fudge brownie squares.

These deeply chocolatey treats are topped with chocolate flakes, desiccated coconut or crisp chocolate croquant.

You'll need to put in extra time in the gym, but it will be worth it.
