Book on ex-PMs' favourite foods

KUALA LUMPUR: Coffee table book Selera Perdana, which portrays the daily lives of Malaysia's past prime ministers, was launched yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The favourite foods, eating habits and family recipes of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad are chronicled in this charity book project.

The country's first woman cabinet minister Tun Fatimah Hashim, who was also present, is the chairperson and patron of the project.

The book was compiled and written by social activists Datin Habibah Yahaya and Fadillah Yakin.

It is based on the experiences of Safiah Mahmood, who is better known as "Kak Orkid".

Kak Orkid had served as the deputy supervisor at the housing division of the Prime Minister's Department and supervised the official residences of four prime ministers.

Retailing at RM200, profits from the sale of the book will be channelled to charity, namely the education and intellectual development of orphans and children of single mothers.
