Sat, Apr 05, 2008
The Straits Times

THE rising price of rice has made headlines and made consumers anxious.

But a Sunday Times survey of 100 restaurants and hawker stalls reveals that only 20 have increased their prices, with the rest absorbing the price hike for now.

Reasons given are that they want to retain their customers and they fear losing business to rivals who may not up their prices.

The survey also shows that the rice sellers are not cutting back on the quantity served or using a cheaper grade of rice to prepare their dishes.

Read the full story in tomorrow's edition of The Sunday Times.
