Dinner for four...for $10
Sun, Apr 20, 2008
The Straits Times

Give $10 to Chef Sunny Sia and he can whip up a delicious meal for a family of four.

Lecturer Ong Eng Gim can do the same.

The two were challenged by The Sunday Times to prepare meals for $10 to prove that the Singaporean family can still get filling, nutritious and tasty meals even while food prices rise.

Chinese newspaper LianHe Zaobao reported recently that a family of four could eat a simple meal of fish, vegetables and beancurd for $10.

In The Sunday Times challenge, we asked Chef Sia and Ms Ong to each prepare two meals.

Chef Sia, 43, an executive chef at Orchard Hotel's Orchard Cafe, came up with the Chinese and Western spreads.
