IT is surprising that Singapore has so few 24-hour cafes, considering we're such a food paradise.
To deprive you of your precious sleep is Breeks' new outlet, located at Changi Airport Terminal 2. It is at level 3 of the departure hall.
This is Breeks' fifth outlet.
It seats about 100 people and the restaurant chain has been certified Halal since 2000.
The day-long menu remains the same, with the popular dishes intact.
I've always liked its garlic mashed potatoes ($3.50) and the Breeks Chefs Salad ($8). These are tasty dishes that will quickly fill the stomach on days when you need to eat-and-run.
The other popular dishes - such as the BBQ half chicken ($14.50) and the Cajun blackened fish ($14.90) - are also available.
But because the Changi Airport outlet is a 24-hour one, there is now a breakfast menu.
This is served from 5am to 11am.
There are 10 breakfast sets offered.
You won't get local food like nasi lemak or chee cheong fun but you can get waffles and beef patties.
And every breakfast set comes with a sharp but very palatable green apple salad, hash browns and baked beans.
All breakfast sets come with free flow of fruit juice, coffee or tea.
Big eaters can try the Big Breeks breakfast ($8.50).
This includes two sunny-side ups, pancakes, chipolata sausages and strips of chicken bacons.
The sausages are not too salty and the bacon is perfectly fried to a crisp.
There are other breakfast options too.
Try the tasty grilled beef patties with melted cheese and mushrooms on muffin ($8).
Or you can ask for the French toast pocket sandwiches.
The ham and cheese ($5.90) is also good for small stomachs.
The waffles ($6.50) come with homemade lemon butter.
The food is basic but the portions are hearty. I expect students and budget travellers to be especially grateful for getting a filling breakfast for a relatively low price.
The service is quick too, so there is no danger of missing your flight.
The airport has long been neglected as a literally-cool place to hang out.
Maybe Breeks can be your reason to spend time there.
