Tampopo Deli

When I have to work Sundays, I usually drop by the Tampopo Deli in Liang Court to pick up a bento box for lunch. Its onigiri, or rice balls, have also staved off many hunger pangs.

Now, the deli has relocated from the area outside Meidi-Ya supermarket to a proper shop of its own on the same level, near Nirai Kanai.

My favourites are all there, but two new things caught my fancy recently: Chewy Chocolate Cake and Super Light Cheese Cake ($5.80 a slice) .

I know I'm kidding myself, but both are so light, so fluffy, they don't seem terribly sinful.

The chocolate cake is essentially a springy chocolate chiffon cake covered with a not-too-sweet frosting. There is just enough sugar to make it interesting, but not too much that the cake is cloying. Great with a cup of green tea after a meal.

The cheese cake (right) is also light and ethereal.

The cake has a mild cheese flavour and is covered with whipped cream and topped with cheese shavings. It's like eating clouds.
