my paper
Long Beach@Dempsey

ON THE front cover of the menu at Long Beach, there's a montage of popular seafood dishes.

Right in the middle, a young boy with a wide smile is happily posing with an Alaskan crab.

After my two-hour lunch, I too was smiling as widely. It was one of the yummiest seafood meals I've had in a long time.

Between me and my lunch buddy, we cleared eight courses because the food was that good.

The difficult part? Shortlisting my top picks. If you're ever at Long Beach, it's mandatory to order the black pepper crabs, a popular Singapore delicacy they claim to have created!

The Sri Lankan black pepper crabs ($4/100g) were succulent and lightly drenched in a fiery black pepper sauce.

I usually dig into any crab dish with my hands, but was pleasantly surprised when the waiting staff peeled it for you.

Initially, it felt weird having someone else peel the crab meat for you (with gloves, of course). After this experience, however, I think I can get used to this luxury. Saves time too.

Other must-try dishes here include the Golden Stripe Lobster ($9.80/100g) fried with curry leaves, eggs and cereal - totally heavenly - and the venus clams steamed with garlic gravy and vermicelli, topped with spring onions ($12/piece).

To end off on a sweet note, go for the mango sago pudding ($5.50). Or if you're a coffee lover like me, you simply can't give the coffee pudding ($5.50) a miss.

Verdict: I'll be back for more. No doubt about that.
