M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2008 - Shu Shu
Presented by The Necessary Stage

Shu Shu is a multilevel narrative physical dance-theatre piece which involves surveillance technology and video art.

The audience sees everything - the performance, the feed on-screen and the live footage from hidden cameras. The performers become obstructions to information.

The performance explores relationships between people under the strain of being accused, as well as the notions of trust and suspicion in the political reality of a conflict.

Tickets at $28 from SISTIC with concessions for students, NSF and senior citizens ($19).

Verdi's La Traviata
Presented by Singapore Lyric Opera

One of Verdi's most well-known operas, this skillfully written piece is a perfect introduction to the art form and a favourite of seasoned veterans.

Set in 19th century Paris, La Traviata ("The Fallen Woman") tells the tragic tale of an exquisite courtesan who gives up her pursuit of money and meaningless pleasure for the love of a young man. True love triumphs over all and the heart-wrenching finale will not leave a dry eye in the theatre.

The story was immortalised in the classic movie Camille starring Greta Garbo and later given a popular update in Pretty Woman starring Julia Roberts. Audiences will immediately recognise many of the musical numbers.

Sung in Italian with English and Chinese subtitiles.

Tickets at $25, $38, $68, $88, $110, $130 and $150 from SISTIC.
