Editor's note: AsiaOne reader Joey Tan sent us the following enthusiastic review of The Garden Slug. Watch out for AsiaOne's review of the eatery next week!

I am so excited that the new western diner at Lorong L Telok Kurau is finally opened. At last, there is a nice decent place to hang out in the neighbourhood.

It has a cute name, called The Garden Slug. Accordingly to the waiter, they serve home-made foods, including their desserts.

I brought my sis to try their food a couple of times. We like what was presented to us.

We had the ribeye steak and the chicken ratatouille. Tender, juicy and delicious. And the portions are quite generous.

For desserts, Pear William is yummy, nicely cooked and caramelised. I could taste the sweet hint of cinnamon and wine. My sis said the blueberry cheesecake is heavenly. We couldn't help but share a Tiramisu. It is unusual as it is served in a glass cup, like a pudding. Oh yes, it's the best.

My verdict? Good foods at very reasonable prices, around $40 for the 2 of us.

What I also like is the laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, comfortable dining setting, and most importantly, their friendly service. It is hard to get genuine good service with a smile in Singapore. This place doesn't impose service charge or GST.

Since it is the poly holiday, I visit the place quite frequently to chill out; sometimes with friends for holiday assignments. I can use my PDA or laptop with their wireless internet. Read a book, have a lemongrass iced tea on the sofa. Or simply watch the rain, or someone tugging his pets for their walk. Quite funny.
